Stripe has agreed to acquire OpenRouter, an AI model gateway that routes requests across more than 400 models from over 80 providers, without disclosing terms. The two sides had discussed a price near $10 billion, The Information reported last month. OpenRouter picks a model for each request based on how complex the task is, plus cost, reliability, and how fast it responds, and NVIDIA, Zoom, and Lovable are already customers. Stripe has spent the past year building toward the same problem with products like Token Billing, which bills customers by token consumption.
