Space raised $2.4M in a pre-seed round led by a16z Speedrun to build a filesystem that sits above the operating system, so files kept in the cloud show up in Finder and can be opened in Premiere or Blender without landing on the local drive. When an app or an agent requests data, Space sends only the byte ranges needed at that moment, so an editor can start cutting footage that would never fit on the laptop. The company is pitching that against Dropbox, Box, and Google Drive, which sync whole files onto a device or pull the work into a browser. Matthew Ao, Arihant Bapna, and Jason Zhao built the first prototype in November 2025 after their previous company burned hours shuttling terabytes of video between drives. About 100 users and teams are on the private beta.
