Shopify opens Universal Commerce Protocol with Catalog access to every developer for building agentic commerce experiences

by | May 19, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

Shopify announced that the Universal Commerce Protocol with Shopify Catalog is now open to every developer, allowing any mobile app, content platform, or AI agent to access Shopify's catalog of millions of merchants and billions of products through one protocol. The announcement marks the next step in Shopify's UCP rollout, following the April expansion of the UCP Tech Council to include Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Salesforce, and Stripe alongside founding members Google, Shopify, Etsy, Target, and Wayfair. Merchants on Shopify are automatically opted in with nothing to set up, with developers able to access the tools at shopify.dev/agents.
