Shopify has integrated USDC directly into its core payments stack, allowing merchants to accept the stablecoin at checkout alongside credit cards without adding new providers or changing existing workflows, with settlement options in either traditional fiat payouts or on-chain USDC across networks including Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon. The integration is built in partnership with Stripe and Coinbase for wallet connectivity and transaction processing, with settlement occurring on Base, Coinbase's Layer 2 network, and support for USDT is planned. The move positions stablecoins less as an alternative payment rail and more as a native feature of mainstream commerce infrastructure, normalizing crypto-denominated transactions for Shopify's global merchant base without requiring operational changes.
