Sen. Elizabeth Warren sent letters to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Monday, calling the DOD’s supply chain risk designation of Anthropic “apparent retaliation” after the company refused to grant the department unfettered access to its models for fully autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance. The DOD blacklisted Anthropic on Feb. 27 following a contract dispute over those safeguards, after which OpenAI announced a deal with the department hours later, though the full contract terms have not been made public. Anthropic has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over the blacklisting, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California.
