Reken, a cybersecurity startup building on-device AI to counter AI-powered fraud, emerged from two years of stealth with its Reken Private Core platform and a first product, a phishing-and-fraud tool called Northstar. Shuman Ghosemajumder, who built Google’s click-fraud defenses and was an early Shape Security employee, cofounded Reken in 2024 with former colleague Rich Griffiths. Northstar runs small proprietary models on the device rather than sending data to the cloud, which Reken says avoids breach risk, latency, and the cost of third-party models from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind. Reken raised $10M in seed funding from investors including Greycroft and FPV Ventures, and is opening Northstar to corporations, government agencies, and universities through early access.
