GPT-5.6 includes three models, the flagship Sol alongside the lower-cost Terra and the high-volume Luna. Sol's strengths in coding, biology, and cybersecurity drew the federal scrutiny that delayed the launch, prompting the Commerce Department's AI standards body to evaluate the models before clearing them. Anthropic faced similar intervention in June, when a Commerce Department export-control order pulled its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models from broad release over national security concerns, with Fable 5 since reinstated but Mythos 5 still restricted.
