OpenAI said Monday its advertising business has reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate, roughly 200 days after it started showing ads inside ChatGPT. The company is presenting the figure as proof of a diversified business model while it prepares for an IPO and faces pressure to justify an $852 billion valuation. OpenAI opened self-service buying on Monday across India, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and ChatGPT Ads now run in more than 40 countries. Ads show up for Go subscribers and free users, who account for most of ChatGPT’s 1 billion weekly actives. OpenAI said the next phase will add ad formats, buying options, campaign objectives and measurement tools, plus more native ways for businesses to reach people inside ChatGPT.
