OpenAI must hand Apple its interview records for former Apple staff after a judge partly grants Apple’s expedited discovery bid

OpenAI must give Apple the materials it used to interview Apple employees for hardware and robotics roles, after Judge Edward Davila partly granted Apple’s request for expedited discovery in its July trade secrets suit. Apple alleges that former employees took confidential files to OpenAI and coached job candidates with inside knowledge. The order also covers LINE messages between OpenAI employees Chang Liu and Alyssa Peng, with anything already collected due in five days and the rest in 14. Liu, Peng, and chief hardware officer Tang Yew Tan, all former Apple staff, will be deposed. But Davila left requests for OpenAI’s work on metal finishes, power management, and batteries to regular discovery, and gave Apple five days to narrow its “amorphous” definition of confidential information.
