OpenAI lets ChatGPT Pro users in the US text their Dot agents over iMessage and RCS, and Dots can now text back with updates

OpenAI began a preview that lets ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the US text their Dot agents over iMessage or RCS, sending instructions, photos and voice memos from their phone’s regular messaging app. Dots, which OpenAI launched at DevDay on September 29, are always-on agents that work through tasks in the background with little supervision, and texting gives them a way to reach out on their own with updates instead of waiting for the user to check ChatGPT. Whatever a Dot saves to memory carries over between texts and ChatGPT, and OpenAI said each Dot can only text its owner. OpenAI built the texting feature with messaging provider Linq and said it ran extensive security testing before opening the preview.
