OpenAI disbanded its Mission Alignment team, a group formed in 2024 to promote the company’s goal of ensuring artificial general intelligence is benefiting humanity. The company reassigned the team’s six members to other departments as part of an internal reorganization. Former lead Joshua Achiam is transitioning into a new role as chief futurist to study how the world will change in response to AI.
