OpenAI deploys an internal AI data agent built on GPT-5.2 to serve over 4,000 employees

OpenAI developed an internal AI data agent to enable thousands of employees to query its 600-petabyte data platform using plain English. Two engineers built the tool in three months, using the company’s Codex agent to generate 70% of the code. The system utilized six layers of context, including “Codex Enrichment” to map table dependencies, to reduce multi-hour data analysis tasks to minutes. Executives stated that while the company has no plans to productize the specific tool, it utilizes the same public APIs and OpenAI Frontier building blocks available to external enterprises.
