OpenAI’s Deployment Company agreed to acquire Northslope, an applied AI firm, for undisclosed terms, in its second acquisition aimed at helping enterprises put AI into core operations, according to Axios. Northslope adds to a growing roster of ‘forward deployed engineers’ now numbering in the hundreds, technical staff who embed with customers to build AI systems inside their organizations. OpenAI’s approach mirrors Palantir’s model of embedding engineers directly with clients, a fit since Northslope’s founders come from Palantir. Deployment work reflects a broader bet that AI labs must help customers use AI, not just build it, with OpenAI’s arm launched in May with $4 billion for deals and Anthropic building its own enterprise AI services business.
