Microsoft has agreed to lease a 700-megawatt data center in Abilene, Texas, developed by Crusoe, after Oracle and OpenAI abandoned talks to occupy the site over financing disputes and OpenAI's shifting infrastructure needs. The site sits adjacent to Oracle and OpenAI's flagship Stargate campus, meaning the two rivals, Microsoft and Oracle, will now share the same greater Abilene campus. The deal is part of Microsoft's aggressive data center expansion, during which the company signed roughly $50B in server farm lease commitments in its most recent quarter alone, reversing a period last year when it had paused many such projects.
