Meta ran ads across Facebook and Instagram for Kromix, an AI app sold as a way to put real women into pornographic video, with one ad built on a likeness of a prominent US politician, according to WIRED. The 32 ads came from a page opened on August 3 with no followers, went only to men, and mostly drew under 10 impressions each before Meta pulled them once WIRED asked. Meta bars sexual imagery in ads and bans promotion of nudify tools outright, but it screens ads mainly with automated systems, and this advertiser hid the video behind cover frames of beaches and mountains. Women’s safety head Cindy Southworth said Meta took down more than 340k nudify ads late last year and is suing developers, and that it’s still looking into how these got through. Apple pulled Kromix from the App Store.
