Meta deactivated more than 540,000 accounts across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads to comply with Australia’s ban on social media for users under 16. The technology giant reported the removals occurred in the first week of the law’s implementation in December. Management stated that ongoing compliance remained a complex process as the government faced criticism over how easily teens bypassed the restrictions.
