Instagram renames its AI creator label to AI-generated profile and will cut the reach of accounts that fail to apply it

Instagram renamed its AI creator label to AI-generated profile and will start throttling the reach of accounts built around an AI persona that skip it. The rename follows testing of the earlier label this year, and Instagram said users complained about profiles that read as human until they found out the person shown was synthetic. Applying the label is technically voluntary, but profiles Instagram catches unlabeled get a notification and can lose eligibility to show up in recommendations, which creators can verify through Account Status. Anyone who turns the label on themselves keeps their current reach. The rule targets profiles fronted by an AI-generated person rather than AI use in general, so creators running their work through AI tools have nothing to add.
