Google rolls out Search Console controls that let publishers keep their pages out of AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover

Google is rolling out to selected site owners the Search Console control that keeps their pages out of AI Overviews, AI Mode, and generative features in Discover, after beginning tests in June. One setting blocks a site's content from appearing in those features while other sites still show up, and a second stops Google from linking to the content or using it to support AI answers. Neither option feeds into ranking or inclusion anywhere else in Search, so a publisher that opts out is not downranked, and its participation in Merchant Center and Google Ads is unaffected. Google can still use the pages to help its systems interpret language and queries. Opting out means forfeiting referrals from AI Overviews, which Google puts above 2.5B monthly users, and AI Mode, which it puts above 1B.
