Google is rolling out its AI shopping tool in Australia, the first Asia-Pacific country to get it, enlisting major local retailers like Kogan, Bunnings, Adore Beauty, Petbarn, and The Iconic so shoppers can buy single items directly inside Google Search, its AI Mode feature, and the Gemini app. The tool runs on the Universal Commerce Protocol, the open agentic-commerce standard Google co-developed with Shopify. At its center is a shopping cart that tracks price changes and alerts shoppers when items come back in stock, and buyers can either check out on Google or take the cart to the merchant's site. Google says shoppers will soon be able to add items to the cart straight from YouTube and Gmail.
