Google Analytics will automatically begin receiving purchase events directly from Shopify's servers starting in July, bypassing the customer's browser entirely for any store with the Google & YouTube app installed, in an opt-out change requiring no merchant action. The server-to-server connection targets the 10-20% of Shopify revenue that client-side tracking misses when shoppers use ad blockers, privacy browsers, or close the tab before the tag fires, routing the “Checkout complete” event through Google's Data Manager API. Analytics professionals have flagged unresolved questions around consent, since Shopify doesn't store consent states and it's unclear how Consent Mode applies to events fired from Shopify's backend, plus deduplication risks for merchants running existing server-side feeds. Because the integration recovers previously invisible purchases, recorded revenue will rise in July, creating an artificial year-over-year bump that reflects measurement, not growth.
