Getty Images shares soar 200% after OpenAI licensing deal puts its photo library inside ChatGPT search and discovery features

Getty Images shares jumped about 200% in premarket trading after the company struck a licensing deal to put images from its library inside ChatGPT’s search and discovery features. The agreement marks a sharp reversal for Getty, whose stock had fallen roughly 55% this year to 61 cents as investors feared OpenAI and other AI developers would poach its business with realistic image generation. Neither company disclosed financial terms or whether Getty’s images would be used to train future OpenAI models, leaving open the question at the heart of the photographer-versus-AI clashes. Getty had initially resisted the technology, building its own AI image generator and suing Stability AI, and is still awaiting approval for its $3.7B acquisition of rival Shutterstock.
