eBay gave sellers one day of notice that USPS Ground Advantage labels bought through the platform will cost $0.10 more for shipments weighing 3 to 5 lbs starting July 25, across zones 1 through 8, according to Liz Morton at Value Added Resource. eBay acknowledged the confusion caused by how often USPS has changed rates this year and said the new prices will show up automatically in its shipping calculator. The increase hits the same weight band that got steep discounts earlier this summer, which pushed some sellers to pad package weights and then get caught by USPS automated package verification. Sellers on eBay and Etsy pay selling and advertising fees on the full transaction amount including shipping, so higher postage means higher fees, while eBay also gets an unearned bump in the GMV it reports each quarter.
