Dario Amodei broke his usual silence on X this weekend, answering the charge that Anthropic backs AI regulation to shut out competitors, after investor Gavin Baker told the “All In” podcast that Amodei had said Anthropic might end up the world’s only private company, which Anthropic denies he ever said. Amodei wrote that the rules Anthropic supports exempt companies under set revenue or training-spend thresholds and reach only cutting-edge models, so they slow the frontier labs and leave smaller rivals room. He also pinned the public’s dim view of AI on a crisis of trust rather than on safety warnings, and said the fair criticism is that the industry hasn’t delivered on its promises. Podcast cohost and former Trump AI czar David Sacks answered that an AI regulator would be “a DMV for AI.”
