Block has rehired at least four employees across engineering, recruiting, and creative roles following its February layoffs, which cut roughly 40% of staff, with some workers returning after managers advocated on their behalf and at least one case attributed to a “clerical error.” CEO Jack Dorsey acknowledged the possibility of missteps in his original layoff announcement, writing that the company had “built in flexibility” to account for getting some decisions wrong. Block did not respond to requests for comment, and there is no indication of any large-scale rehiring effort.
