Amazon Web Services launched Amazon S3 Files, a new feature that embeds a file system interface into its S3 object storage service, allowing companies to store and manage both files and objects in a single environment rather than maintaining separate infrastructure for each. The feature translates file system commands into S3-compatible instructions, routes read and write requests through high-speed storage for faster processing, and supports throughput of up to several terabytes per second, while also enabling applications originally built for file systems to interact with S3 objects directly. S3 Files is generally available across 34 cloud regions and works with Amazon EC2 instances, containers, and AWS Lambda serverless functions.
