Apple gives new hires a company-paid iCloud account and encourages them to attach it to the personal Apple ID they already use, since an iPhone supports one primary ID at a time, according to Aaron Tilley at The Information. Files that colleagues share outside Apple's managed work folder land in that personal account, and when someone resigns, Apple cuts off the work directory and internal logins but leaves those files in place, still syncing to personal devices and sometimes pushing update notifications. More than six former employees now at other companies described the same experience, and some of the 400-plus Apple alumni at OpenAI got letters from Apple's lawyers before the trade secrets suit landed. Apple said nothing in that case involves documents shared through iCloud.
