Apple asked the court hearing its trade secrets suit against OpenAI, io Products and several former employees to let Apple’s forensic experts examine the device images the defendants’ experts worked from, saying that analysis missed files on ex-employee Chang Liu’s Mac mini and wrongly read zero-byte files as never opened. OpenAI wants a neutral expert handling those images under an agreed protocol, which Apple says would leave it a step behind defense experts who have already been through the material. Apple also wants OpenAI’s development records on metal finishes, power management and battery work to test OpenAI’s claim that it arrived at its finishes independently, and OpenAI calls that an attempt to “snoop on a competitor” before Apple has identified the secrets it is suing over.
