Anthropic signed a $35B cloud deal with Lambda, an Nvidia-backed provider, and Nvidia holds the lease on the Texas data center behind it, according to The Wall Street Journal. Hut 8 is developing the site in Nueces County, and Nvidia locked up the capacity there a few weeks ago, so Lambda takes a large contract without sourcing the space itself and stocks it with hardware sold to it by one of its own investors. Nvidia has been putting its balance sheet behind customers that can’t borrow cheaply, and in July it started backing neoclouds with credit in return for a share of their revenue, though it has paused some of those deals. Anthropic has been buying capacity wherever it can since running short earlier this year, including a $45B deal this month with Nscale in West Virginia.
