Anthropic’s share of junior engineers among recent technical hires fell to 9% from 27%, even as the company tripled its headcount in a year, according to a report it published on its own workforce. Interactive Claude sessions now log six hours for every hour employees work, and engineers commit five times as much code as they did six months ago. That volume has made people the bottleneck, with a fifth of staff surveyed in April saying their job had become managing Claudes instead of doing the work and Claude sessions sitting idle about 80% of the time waiting on a human. Employees also spend 20% more time in meetings than a year ago, which Anthropic attributes to staff valuing face-to-face coordination.
