Anthropic hires Monzo co-founder Tom Blomfield from Y Combinator to strengthen its compute team amid the AI talent race

Anthropic reportedly hired Tom Blomfield, co-founder and former CEO of UK neobank Monzo, to strengthen its compute team, according to LinkedIn news. Blomfield is taking a leave of absence from his general partner role at startup accelerator Y Combinator to focus on compute availability as Anthropic expands its AI capabilities. His recruitment follows a run of high-profile Anthropic hires from rivals OpenAI and Google DeepMind, amid intensifying competition for top AI talent. Industry observers framed the move around Anthropic’s compute scale, with AI Trust Architect founder Gail Weiner noting its commitments to a million Google TPUs, gigawatts of capacity, and deals worth tens of billions make compute a commercial and operational challenge, not just a technical one.
