Amazon is looking to fill over 300,000 holiday positions, up 20% from last year, including full-time, part-time and temporary jobs, with temporary workers averaging $20 an hour. Seasonal hires who stay on into January and put in 30 or more hours a week will get medical benefits. Amazon’s push stands out in a weak holiday job market, where Challenger, Gray & Christmas expects retail hiring to come in under the 450,000 seasonal jobs added last year, which would be the lowest since 2008. Walmart and Target, which went on holiday hiring sprees during the pandemic, again haven’t said how many seasonal workers they plan to add.
