Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei met Friday with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to discuss responsible deployment of Anthropic's Mythos model, with the White House calling the meeting “productive and constructive” and the Office of Management and Budget separately telling government agencies it is putting protections in place to allow them to begin using the model. The meeting marks one of the highest-profile efforts to ease tensions between Anthropic and the Trump administration, which designated the company a supply-chain risk after Anthropic refused the Pentagon's demand to allow its models to be used for “all lawful uses” without explicit protections against autonomous weapons and mass surveillance. Anthropic has hired lobbyists with close ties to the Trump administration, including a fundraiser who raised more than $50M for Trump's 2024 campaign, while continuing to fight the supply-chain risk designation in two separate courts.
