Amazon vows action against its India delivery partner M&M Logistics after a fire killed two workers, pending the police probe

Amazon said it will take action against a third-party delivery partner in India once police finish investigating a June 5 fire that killed two workers, and has launched its own internal probe, according to Reuters. M&M Logistics Solutions, an Amazon delivery contractor in the northern state of Uttarakhand, ran the site, which police say had no valid fire safety clearance, alarm, smoke detectors, or proper exit. Amazon said worker safety is its top priority and that its supplier code lets it suspend or terminate contractors for violations, while the Amazon India Workers Union demanded an independent judicial investigation into the deaths. India’s National Human Rights Commission had already scrutinized Amazon in 2024 over alleged labor-law violations during a heatwave at a warehouse near New Delhi, which led to state legal action. Where was Amazon’s urgency before the fire? How about some pre-emptive checks at your partners’ facilities?
