Amazon ties $50 billion OpenAI investment to IPO and AGI goals

Amazon is negotiating a potential $50 billion investment in OpenAI that is linking the majority of the funds to the startup reaching artificial general intelligence or completing an IPO. The e-commerce giant is planning to deploy an initial $15 billion immediately, while SoftBank and Nvidia are pledging $30 billion each to the round. The deal is valuing the ChatGPT maker at $730 billion as the company is simultaneously discussing an expansion of its cloud partnership to utilize Amazon’s Trainium chips.
