Amazon expects its own network to carry 88.7% of its US packages by 2029, according to an internal planning document from late July that Eugene Kim at Business Insider reviewed. The forecast runs ahead of what the company projected earlier, which had first-party delivery at 83.8% in 2027 and 85% the year after. Outside carriers absorb almost none of the growth, holding near 2 billion packages while Amazon’s total US volume climbs from roughly 14.1 billion in 2027 to 17.8 billion in 2029. USPS falls to about 10% of Amazon’s packages in 2027 and 8% by 2029, down from the 13% its prior plan assumed. The April contract with USPS set a floor of 1.27 billion packages, 19% below the previous minimum. Amazon says the projections are preliminary and shouldn’t be read as final.
