Amazon Prime Air drone drops a customer’s package into a backyard hot tub outside Houston in a video spreading on social media

Amazon’s Prime Air service dropped a customer’s package into a backyard hot tub in Richmond, Texas, in an 11-second clip that spread across social media this week. The footage, credited to Lindsey Austen through Storyful, shows the drone hovering over the pool deck, opening its bay, and releasing the box straight into the water while the woman filming curses. Amazon spokesperson Lindsay Hamilton called incidents like this “extremely rare” in a statement to Mashable, and said the company’s A-to-z Guarantee gets customers a refund or replacement when an order doesn’t show up as expected. Amazon’s drone delivery FAQ says nothing about what to do after a water landing. The clip surfaced days after Amazon said it would expand Prime Air to nearly 500 US cities and towns by year-end.
