Amazon canceled its commercial drone delivery initiative in Italy, stating that the country’s “broader business regulatory framework” failed to support the program’s long-term viability despite successful technical clearance from aerospace authorities. The Italian civil aviation authority (ENAC) labeled the withdrawal “unexpected,” attributing the decision to internal Amazon policy shifts linked to “recent financial events” rather than operational hurdles. The reversal follows the company’s completion of initial flight testing in San Salvo just one year prior.
