Amazon closed its Virginia Beach fulfillment center after a 19-year-old man shot and killed an 18-year-old woman in the facility’s outdoor picnic area on Sunday and then killed himself, according to police. Investigators are treating the shooting as a domestic homicide between two acquaintances and haven’t said whether either of them worked for Amazon. Workers inside moved to a shelter area at the rear of the building while managers scanned badges to account for everyone, and they were then sent home for the day. Amazon kept the facility closed Monday, said it will pay employees for any missed shifts, and offered counseling before telling workers to return on Tuesday.
