EU authorities detained 196 million suspected counterfeit goods in 2025, a record, valued at €6.3 billion and 67% more items than in 2024, according to a joint European Commission and EU Intellectual Property Office report. Border seizures more than doubled to 42 million items worth about €2 billion. Express courier shipments made up the largest share of those border cases, followed by postal parcels, and the Commission ties both to e-commerce. China was the source of about 41% of goods detained at the border, followed by Türkiye at about 19%. The Commission said growing e-commerce volume and fragmented supply chains make fakes harder to catch, and pointed to its customs reform, which sets up the new EU Customs Authority and a data hub to spot high-risk shipments.
