Meta took down its proposed commercial terms and posted a notice on November 5 saying they won’t start on November 20 as planned, so its existing terms stay in place while it keeps consulting publishers. The terms would have let Meta crawl the websites of businesses that use its ad and business tools and feed that content into its own products, including AI features. Media groups have since won preliminary injunctions against the terms from courts in Norway and Brazil, according to Nieman Lab, while Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority opened a formal investigation on October 30 into whether Meta is abusing a dominant position. Meta told Reuters the CMA had “no grounds” to investigate, since it had already promised to consult publishers before changing anything.
