Google signed an agreement letting the Prospect union, which already has a similar deal with Meta, recruit among about 7,000 of Google’s UK employees, covering YouTube but not DeepMind, according to The Guardian. The deal follows new UK rules giving unions a legal right to come into workplaces and reach staff, and it allows Prospect to run sessions in Google offices such as its King’s Cross headquarters to sign up members. The agreement isn’t formal union recognition, and Google said it entered the deal to comply with the law while maintaining it already has good relations with employees. Prospect general secretary Mike Clancy said tech workers want more say over pay, flexibility, and how AI gets deployed at work.
