Amazon has started deprecating most of its flagship Nova models, including Premier and Omni, the Reel video generator, and the Canvas image generator, which employees say are supported but no longer developed, according to Business Insider. Talent and scarce compute moved instead to Frontier Model Research, a group run by Pieter Abbeel, who arrived through the Covariant acquisition, and a new flagship model from that team is expected at re:Invent this fall. Amazon also shut AGI Lab, the research unit it built in 2024 around Adept’s founders, the same week it cut AGI jobs. Peter DeSantis, who took over in December, narrowed a strategy that under Rohit Prasad spanned text, image, and video model families. Nova 2 Sonic, Nova 2 Lite, Nova Forge, and the Nova Act agent survive, and the new model could ship under the Nova name.
