OpenAI employees donated more than $215K to Guardrails Alliance, a super PAC pushing tougher frontier-AI regulation, putting them at odds with a pro-AI group backed by OpenAI president Greg Brockman, according to WIRED. Seven current staffers and one former employee gave to the group, led by a $200K donation from research engineer Juan Felipe Cerón Uribe, who works on mitigating AI’s societal harms. Guardrails Alliance, launched last month with $5M and aiming for $15M this cycle, casts itself as a populist counterweight to Leading the Future, a pro-AI PAC with over $100M that Brockman and his wife pledged $50M to. Staff donations expose internal OpenAI tensions over AI policy, with leaders distancing themselves from Leading the Future, while a separate PAC, Public First Action, counters it with $20M from Anthropic.
