Walmart, Costco, and Amazon are all building direct-to-consumer weight loss drug programs, on the theory that whoever fills the prescription also sells the groceries, according to CNBC. Amazon routes patients through One Medical and its pharmacy arm at $25 a month with insurance, while Costco sells Wegovy at roughly $349 through Sesame and requires a membership. Walmart folded GLP-1 fulfillment into Better Care Services in April, pairing it with nutrition coaching and fitness apps. Employers are creating the opening, with 6% of large ones dropping coverage this year as the drugs grew to 11.4% of pharmacy claims from 6.9% two years ago, per Mercer. Both Walmart and Amazon have tried healthcare before and quit, closing all 51 Walmart Health clinics in 2024 and shutting Amazon Care in 2022.
