TikTok serves roughly three times as much AI slop as YouTube, according to a report from Kapwing that manually reviewed the first 500 videos fed to a brand-new account on each platform. On TikTok, 294 of those videos, or 59%, were AI-generated, against 104, or 21%, on YouTube Shorts. Reviewing more than 10,000 TikTok videos across 20 categories, Kapwing found kids’ content the most artificial at 57%, peaking at the #cartoonkids tag where 97 of 100 clips were AI-made, with science, health, and history each around a third. Fashion, music, and fitness came in under 2%, formats that lean on real on-camera presence. Even after TikTok added tools letting users dial back AI, Kapwing found the default feed still skews heavily toward it.
