Satvacart shuts down after 12 years in India’s online grocery market as funding rounds and acquisition talks fall through

Satvacart shut down on August 28 after 12 years selling groceries online in India, according to a LinkedIn post from founder Rahul H. Saxena, who said the team has been disbanded. Saxena said money came into the Gurugram company in small tranches, never at the size it needed to rebuild the business. Talks with two big investors over a larger check went nowhere, and acquisition discussions with several companies also collapsed. Saxena said the company’s insistence on profitability had held down its scale, which left it too small to interest either set of suitors. Satvacart launched in 2014 with milk subscriptions before shifting to an inventory-led model built on warehouses covering a five-kilometer radius, years before Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart made speed the category.
