Samsung expands food recognition on its Bespoke AI smart refrigerators from 100 to 2,000+ items via Google Gemini integration

Samsung began pushing a software update on Sunday to select Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerators in the U.S. that integrates Google's Gemini AI model to expand the number of identifiable food items from about 100 to more than 2,000. The system now distinguishes between similar products like Diet Coke and Coke Zero, logs how long perishable items have been in the fridge to alert users about shelf life, and can prompt users to add frequently consumed items to a shopping list. The update also adds new widgets to the refrigerator's display including Trending Recipes for popular recipe videos, FoodNote for frequently used ingredients and recipe suggestions, and What's For Today? for meal recommendations based on what's stocked, plus upgrades to Samsung's Bixby voice assistant with Voice ID for individual household member recognition across up to six accounts. The update is rolling out to select 32-inch display models, with an expansion to 9-inch display versions and additional global markets planned in phases throughout 2026.
