OpenAI CEO Sam Altman downplayed the idea that AI's biggest players are racing to go public, hours after Anthropic confidentially filed for an IPO. “I think there is a race to deliver the best technology, build the best business, but you know, going public is a financing event, and I don't think that's one that we're focused on the timing of,” Altman told CNBC's David Faber on Monday. OpenAI is also moving toward a public listing and is targeting a debut later this year. Altman also pushed back on the notion that one company will dominate AI, saying the technology will be “such critical infrastructure” that the world will “rightly demand robustness in the system of multiple providers.”
