OpenAI executive Brad Lightcap is leaving to build something new, eight years after joining, per a staff note he made public on X Tuesday. Lightcap arrived in 2018 and became chief financial officer, then took the chief operating officer job in 2022 and stayed in it through April, before shifting to a role covering special projects. His exit caps a run of senior departures, with Sam Altman’s second-in-command Fidji Simo stepping down over health issues last month, chief marketing officer Kate Rouch leaving in April for cancer recovery, and Kevin Weil, who ran science research after a stint as product chief, out that same month.
