OpenAI hired Brian McCarthy away from SpaceX as its vice president of worldwide sales, a newly created job with no predecessor in it, according to Emily Forlini at Fortune. McCarthy ran global revenue and worldwide field operations at Cursor and kept that role at SpaceX after it bought the company in August, and before that he ran enterprise sales at Rubrik, ThoughtSpot, AppDynamics, and Qlik. He is the first significant hire by chief revenue officer Dali Rajic, who started August 24 and was his boss at AppDynamics, and who has also recruited two enterprise sales executives from Snowflake, according to a source. The two will build out a sales force as corporate adoption becomes the main front in OpenAI’s fight with Anthropic and a revenue stream it needs before an IPO expected next year.
